Julius Tave Obituary

Julius Tave, 87, passed away on January 31, 2024 in Alamogordo, New Mexico. He was born on September 12, 1936 in Whitehouse, Texas to Artis Tave and Palthera Thomas.

Julius moved to New Mexico in 1944, attending school in Cloudcroft. He was the first African American student to earn a high school diploma from Cloudcroft High School, graduating in 1956. He did odd jobs until 1970, when he took a job at M & J Wood, working a sawmill in High Rolls, New Mexico. He gave the company 26 years of dedicated service until an unfortunate accident caused him to have to retire in 1996. Since he resided so close to the border or Mexico, he often traveled across the border. During this time, he met Concepcion Gallardo in 1960 in Juarez, Mexico. They had 3 children together over the next 7 years, but life and the uncertainties it brings, caused them to drift apart, remaining on good terms for the children's sake. He then met Maria Avalos in 1970. They got married on March 9, 1971, in El Paso, Texas. They went on to raise 6 children together. In 1975, he migrated back to the United States, bringing his first 3 children with him and continued to raise them alongside his wife, Maria. He remained in New Mexico until the Lord called him home.

Julius is survived by his daughters, Palthera Shired of Tularosa, NM, and Lorena Tave of Alamogordo, NM; his sons, Julio "Flaco" Tave Jr (wife Gabriela) of El Paso, TX, Edward "Eddie" Tave (wife Guadalupe "Lupita") of Juarez, Mexico, Julio Tave of Alamogordo, NM, William "Willie" Tave of Alamogordo, NM, and Guadalupe Tave (wife Margie) of Alamogordo, NM; brother, Samuel Tave (wife Florin) of Los Angeles, California; 25 grandchildren, 33+ great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Palthera Thomas; father, Artis Tave; wife, Maria Avalos-Tave; daughters, Gloria Tave and Rozetta Tave-Turner; son, Rene Tave; brothers, Billie-Joe Tave and Aubrey Tave.

A celebration of life will be held on March 2nd at 2:00 pm at 43 Smith Avenue, Alamogordo, New Mexico.
